Victoria International Arts Festival Closing Concert

The closing concert of the Victoria International Arts Festival was played on Monday 9th July in a Grand Concert featuring the Laudate Pueri Choir and the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra. This year being the 15th Edition of the Festival, the Committee and I decided it would be a good idea if I were to compose a new piece to mark the occasion.  The result was Sounds of Celebration, op. 128, a work for a large brass ensemble, which was actually given its world premier during the evening.  Besides this new piece I included in the programme Dvořák’s ever green New Words Symphony and Leonard Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms.

Other works of mine played during this five week old Festival included Soliloquies for Horn Solo (Josè Garcia Gutierrez), L-Għanja tal-Ħajja (Joseph Huber), Rapsodija Maltija for Piano Solo (Pascal Mantin), and 3 Songs for Phaedra ( Kate McDermott).
