New Hall To Be Dedicated to Mro. Vella

On the 29th of February 2020, a commemorative event was organised by the La Stella Philharmonic Society at the La Stella Band Club, Victoria Gozo, remembering the second anniversary of the untimely passing of Maestro Joseph Vella.

Mr. Nathaniel Attard opened the event with an introductory address highlighting the career and many achievements of the same composer.

This was followed by a number of musical interventions. Mr. George Camilleri on the euphonium and Mr. Francis Camilleri on the piano performed Apres un Reve by Gabriel Faure, and thereafter delighted the audience with Maestro Vella`s Tre Preghiere (Opus 89), performed in the company also of Mr. Robert Buttigieg on the trumpet. The children’s choir ‘Piccole Stelle’ under the direction of Ms. Sylvana Attard later performed a sweet medley composed of short songs from the compilation ‘Tfal Maltin Ikantaw’, a song book for children with music by Maestro Vella himself.

Maestro Vella`s son, Alan, thanked the La Stella Philharmonic Society for their constant support, highlighting the close ties between the Vella Family and the Society that extend beyond five decades. Alan Vella reiterated his family`s intention to continue collaborating closely over the coming years.

On his part, the Society’s President, Mr. Michael Formosa, paid tribute to Maestro Vella`s enormous contribution towards the growth of the La Stella Philharmonic Society, himself auguring that ties with the Vella Family remain strong. As part of his intervention, Mr. Formosa also announced a forthcoming investment within the Society’s premises, in the form of a new, modern and sizeable hall which will be purposely dedicated for musical rehearsals, and which will be specifically named “Sala Professur Joseph Vella”.

The Vella Family wishes to thank the Society’s Committee and all other participants for this heartfelt event.
