Joseph Vella featured at the MUSIC+ festival

After last year’s first edition of the festival MUSIC+, this year the Classique Foundation will be presenting the second edition that will take place between 27th September and 1st November 2019.

The last recital in the series will take place on 1st November at St. Francis Church, Victoria. This recital will feature Italian string quartet Quartetto Mediterraneo. The programme includes Joseph Vella’s early work Piccolo Divertimenti, Op.2. Recital starts at 19:30hrs. A full list of recitals is available by visiting their facebook page.

This year, The Classique Foundation will also be presenting BO-PEEP (an opera from children to children), composed in 1968 by Mro. Joseph Vella (1942-2018). This production will feature four young soloists, the VPA School Dance Department (choreographer: Christabel Bajada) and the SCJ Children’s Choir (chorus mistress: Marouska Attard). The artistic direction will be by Gordon John Grech whereas Joseph Debrincat conducts the Classique Ensemble (made up of international and local musicians). Scenography is by Denis Mompalao. This opera itself will be previewed by a brief explanation by actors Marion Scarborough and George Camilleri. The whole event will take approximately an hour. The event will take place on 31st October at the Teatru Giovanni, Xewkija and there will be 2 performances: one at 10:00hrs for children from the Gozo College and Gozo Church Schools; and another one at 19:30hrs open to the general public. The event is open for all audiences 9 yrs+
