From Europe With Love

Joseph Vella`s “3 Danze Antiche con Preludio” (Opus 98)“, composed in 1999 for a string quartet, will be featured in the Galway Music Residency’s ambitious project entitled “From Europe with Love”. The performance by the ConTempo Quartet will take place on Tuesday 6th November 2018 within the medieval setting of St Nicholas’ Collegiate Church, in Galway, Ireland.

The Galway Music Residency was established in 2002 to cultivate a comprehensive music development programme for Galway, with a professional ensemble at its centre. This latest initiative celebrates the shared musical heritage of the European Union by exploring the string quartet repertoire from each of its 27 member countries. Speakers from the featured nations, embassies and local communities will introduce each concert providing unique personal perspectives on the music to be performed.

During this edition of “From Europe with Love”, audiences will be treated to a string quartet repertoire from four Maltese composers including Joseph Vella, who is acknowledged by the organisers as being the father of the Maltese revival movement.
