On the 25th February, it will be eight years since dad – Maestro Joseph Vella – passed away. Different musical events are taking place around this date.

Fondazzjoni Paulus are organising a concert on Saturday 21st February at the official residence of the President of Malta at San Anton Palace, Attard. Maestro Vella`s “Kantilena ta` Pietru Caxaru” (Opus 58) will be performed by Soprano Claire Caruana, accompanied on harp by Caroline Calleja. https://fondazzjonipaulus.org/2026/

As in previous years, the Laudate Pueri Choir in conjunction with Il-Hagar Museum, will be organising a weekend of events between Friday 20th and Sunday 22nd February in Victoria, Gozo, to celebrate the life and work of Maestro Vella. The 8th Memorial Lecture will be delivered by Dr Alex Vella Gregory on Friday 20th February at 7.30pm, and an exhibition focused on Vella`s Piano Concertos will be inaugurated thereafter.

A concert featuring Miriam Cauchi, Simon Abdilla, Alex Vella Gregory and Maria Frendo is also being organised on Saturday 21st February at 8pm, including art songs by Maestro Vella (Il-Kebbies tal-Fanali, Wahdi and Kant ta’ Mara) as well as others by Alex Vella Gregory.

The popular radio programme “Marci u Bandalori” coordinated by Joseph Chetcuti will also be commemorating Maestro Vella`s passing, with a selection of band marches by Maestro Vella that will be aired on Net FM Radio on Sunday 22nd February at 12.30pm.

Finally, the Maltese–Bulgarian Circle is organising a Maltese-Bulgarian Music Legacy Operatic Concert on the 3rd March at the Malta Society of Arts, Valletta (7pm). Bulgarian soprano Andriana Yordanova will be singing the Aria of Theresa from Maestro Vella`s opera “Valeriana” (Opus 155).
