Professor Maestro Joseph Vella passed away on the 25th February 2018. So suddenly, so unexpectedly.

The family would like to express its sincere gratitude to all dignitaries, authorities, close relatives, friends, musical/cultural communities for their support and solace in these difficult times.

With over 150 orchestral and choral works spanning a life-long career in music, it is no surprise that he is perceived as Malta’s leading contemporary composer. His compositions reached all parts of the globe, cementing his place as an internationally acclaimed yet humble musical giant, as also evidenced by the several tributes flowing in from across the world.

His charisma as composer, conductor, tutor, friend, husband or dad will be sorely missed. Music was his life and passion, but he also had an immense heart of gold, and the energy of a teenager.

The Music of Joseph Vella, however, lives on. He left his music for posterity, and his works will continue to be played.
